Well you came here because of the title and here is the story. The popular P2P (Peer-To-Peer) file sharing application is looking to go big or go home and are planning on making the software be paid for.

As many of you know the free version of uTorrent has ads and certain features which are blocked. And upgrading to Pro Access gives you a much better experience, like being able to watch a video while its downloading, scan the files for any viruses to make sure its safe for the user, removes ads, comes with its own HD Player, and you get BitTorrent Bundles...

Quote From uTorrent
"This is a familiar revenue model that is commonly used by software companies," the μTorrent team wrote. "It allows us to fund the costs associated with software development, as well as other projects and innovations."

The μTorrent team's stressed its goals are simple:
  • Continue to make μTorrent the best torrent client available
  • Provide its users with clear options for supporting μTorrent (with options for every budget)
  • Be open and transparent throughout the entire process
μTorrent is determined to take this step and also has certain ideas which the company might possibly ask for:
  • Monthly, Years, or Lifetime Subscription fee
  • Newer limited versions of μTorrent, but of course will be available after a certain subscription
The team hasn't done anything at this time, its an idea they feel would help build their company and of course bring revenue to enhance certain things. But there are at least 170 million people whom use thus program who might think its sorta a pain or hurdle to deal with.

We are still waiting on further announcements for the final decision.

If they do add a subscription fee to it i honestly don't think anyone would use it as there is so many more alternatives.
