Best BIOS Region for AetherSX2 on Android? Looking for Recommendations

Hi everyone,

I've been setting up AetherSX2 on Android again and noticed that different BIOS regions seem to give slightly different compatibility depending on the game. Most of the games I play run well, but I'm curious whether other users have found a particular BIOS version to be the most reliable.

While comparing different setup methods, I found some useful PlayStation emulator guides and BIOS information on, which helped me understand the differences between the available BIOS versions and emulator settings.

For those who regularly use AetherSX2:

Which BIOS region do you prefer (NTSC-U, PAL, or NTSC-J)?
Have you noticed any performance or compatibility differences?
Are there any Android settings that significantly improve FPS or reduce stuttering?

I’ve found that matching the BIOS region to the games you play is usually the best approach. For PAL games, I prefer a European BIOS, while NTSC-U or NTSC-J can make sense for games from those regions. When researching options, I noticed that the BIOS itself generally doesn’t make a major difference to FPS, although certain games may behave differently depending on the region.

On Android, Vulkan is worth trying first, and 1x or 2x internal resolution can help reduce stuttering. I’d also keep advanced EE settings at their defaults unless a specific game requires tweaking. For legality and reliability, using a BIOS dumped from your own PS2 is preferable to downloading one from an unknown source.
