It has been a very busy week in the Nintendo underground 3DS scene, first the latest official SDK from the big 'N' gets leaked (no posting links here, as its illegal to have without a signed NDA from Nintendo, and if you have one then you don't need the SDK!), and then soon after that some scene developers using the info from SDK started coding up some cool new utilities to allow to grab the latest keys from your Nintendo 3DS handheld and decrypt the various apps and Game ROM dumps out there.
First out of the gate was the 'Team Fail' developer, they released a simple PC app, more like a PoC, but it worked:
So, I saw this information on an irc chat one day, that apparently the leaked SDK's makerom has information on how to decrypt roms, or at least obtain the keys, and I decided to further it with some of my own rom dumps for testing purposes, as well. What this application does, is generates keys for the different rom partitions (romfs, exefs, and exheader). It's 100% legitimate.
Simply open your 3DS or 3DZ (I need confirmation on this format, as I cannot dump them at this time) rom, and choose a key type, then press "Get Key!". It'll appear in the box below, and you can also choose to save the keys to a text file after you've generated them. It's stupidly simple.
As of now, the keys do not have any practical use, but it's a step closer to rom hacking on the 3DS.
Then today the scene group VOiD released a more complex set of tools, here is NFO file on what it does:
As for what you can do with it, not much yet but it is nice start, check out the source links below for more info, and download links.
