We all know the sad notice about this error " 80710A06 " : Sony seems patched all spoofers, so people with a Custom Firmware lower than 4.66 can't go online. The only way is to update to a newest Custom Firmware, like Habib 4.66 or Ferrox 4.66.
But today, it seems we have a new notice.
An user from a PS3 site ( I'm not going to leave the link for avoid possible advertising ) known as " wlfwood " seems he found what hides behind the error 80710A06.
According to wlfwood, Sony disabled the SSLv3 server for the old Firmwares.
He came to this by using OpenSLL, an open source implementation of the SSL and TLS protocols.
If we try to log to PSN with an old Custom Firmware, we get this famous error 80710A06, this because when the Server sees the spoof, it disables the SSLv3 protocol, something quite different if we are going to use the TLS protocol.
But, what is this SSLv3 protocol?
The SSLv3 protocol ( Secure Sockets Layer ) is a type of technology used by websites to connect to a server. But now, this protocol isn't considered secure anymore, since it could allow attackers to easily extract personal information of users during a connection.
Indeed, Chrome and Firefox also deleted this protocol, but now the question is :
If this protocol isn't secure anymore, why would Sony disable it only on old Firmwares and not also for the newest one? ( 4.66 ) .
We still don't know a lot about this move of Sony, the only thing we can hope for is that all the truth comes out.
Also, on the Internet there are some notices about a possible new Firmware.
I got these informations around on some sites, I provied to translate from italian to english, and add/remove some things. So, if the translation isn't perfect, I'm sorry : italian is my native language
