Sony Japan has just confirmed that PlayStation 3 messaging will end on June 30, 2020.
What does that mean ? This means that all of the messaging features between PlayStation 3 (PS3) and other platforms, including PlayStation 4 (PS4), the PlayStation Messages app, My PlayStation, and PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) will no longer be operational, and functions will not be able to send messages to the PS3 or display alerts between them.
According to the official press release, it will not be possible:
- Send messages from PS3 to other platforms.
- Send messages from other platforms to the PS3.
- View game alerts between PS3 and PS4 / PlayStation Messages App.
- The message function between PS3 and the message function between platforms other than PS3 can always be used.
- This can vary depending on the geographic area
It also means that it will no longer be possible to use your PS3 to send messages to PS4 or PS Vita.

According to the official press release, it will not be possible:
