After a 14-year ban on the sale of PlayStation consoles, Sony is finally bringing their consoles to China.

Following a 14-year ban on the sale of PlayStation consoles, Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group Co Ltd has been partnered with Sony to bring the PlayStation consoles to China.

According to BusinessWeek, Sony has agreed to create two ventures with the Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group, in order to begin making and selling PlayStation consoles in China. A 70 percent stake is owned by Sony in one venture, and they own a 49 percent stake in the other.

No additional details have been released. It was not revealed when the consoles are coming to the Chinese market. Nor was it announced whichconsoles would be sold; although it's safe to bet the PlayStation 4 will be the first to hit the market, nothing has yet been confirmed.

A Tokyo-based analyst at UBS AG, Ryosuke Katsura, spoke to BusinessWeek about the Chinese gaming market:

..
.Sony entering the China market can broaden sales. PlayStation 4’s online game network service can help the company avoid piracy issues that are more prevalent with packaged games.

Last month, Microsoft announced plans to release their Xbox One console in China this September. China holds a large potential market, according to statistics released at the Games Marketing Summit last month; the number of gamers in China surpasses the total population of the United States.

In 2000, China implemented the ban of consoles, concerned that video games could have a negative impact on the physical and mental development of children. Following the lift of this ban last year, censorship rules for games were published; any game that promotes violence or drug use is banned in the country.

What do you think about this? Are you happy to know that Chinese gamers, a large chunk of gamers worldwide, will finally be able to enjoy PlayStation consoles? What console do you think will hit the market first? Feel free to tell us in the comments below!
