This tutorial will show you how to see the base firmware of your PS3 with a few steps and images.
What you need:
- A working PS3 phat or slim.
- USB flash drive.
- MinVerChk file.

1. Transfer the MinVerChk file to a USB flash drive, as if it were an upgrade (e.g. x:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP).
2. Insert the USB flash drive into the PS3.
3. Install the update from XMB (This will fail and display the Firmware Base).
After running the tool if it says your base firmware is 3.55 or below then you can downgrade, in order to downgrade you will need to buy a hardware flasher such as the e3 flasher or Progskeet.
