Prevent YLOD on all Fat/Slim PS3's without any cooling mods with this one simple trick!

The first few models of the PS3 were moderately prone to heat-related issues, requiring a reflow/reball of the CPU or GPU, or something similar.
Any piece of computer hardware that gets hot and isn't cooled back down to room temperature results in a temperature spike, a most notable problem in the Xbox 360. This happens to the PS3, and any other similar piece of hardware that gets hot as well. HOWEVER, the PS3 Fat and Slim have a neat little feature that makes this problem almost non-existent, if you know to use it.

There is a feature in Fat and Slim consoles that allows you to force the internal cooling fan to max speed for about 30 seconds or so while the console is off. This is usually referred to as the dust removal trick. However, it is much more useful as an after-cooling trick.

The ultimate goal in preventing the YLOD is to get rid of the temperature spike that causes the damage we all don't want to have inflicted on our console.
Enter the after-cooling trick.

To activate this feature:
Fat: Flip power switch , hold down eject sensor (DO NOT LET GO) , flip the power switch back , wait for the fan to start spinning , let go of eject sensor.
Slim : Unplug power cable , hold down eject button , plug the power cable back in , wait for the fan to start spinning , let go of eject button.

This really only makes sense on fat consoles, so for slims you should probably do something else to keep it cool as it is difficult to perform the trick on a slim.

What you are going to do with this feature is:
Play the console as you normally would.
After turning it off, perform the after-cooling trick.
After the fan has turned back off and the the PS3 beeps three times, flip the switch/unplug the power cable.
Do the after-cooling trick over and over again until the air coming out of the back of the console is cool again.
Congratulations! You have prevented a temperature spike!

This is especially useful for someone that either isn't able to make a cooling mod him/herself, or someone that want to keep a console completely stock.

It's not a "dust removal trick". This was just a feature for devs to test the fans etc. People using this will probably break their PS3 more than they would have if they just left it alone.

I thought a spike in temp is when it shoots straight up, doing this wouldn't cool the ps3 properly so its best just to turn it off and let it do it itself

That is pretty retarded and it doesn't cool down your PS3. The real way to cool your PS3 is by installing Rebug CFW and controlling the fan manually through webman.
