Over the past few days, you might have heard references to a supposed leak of the PlayStation 4 Neo’s release date and price. The report emerged when Amazon Spain listed a new PS4 console with a release date of October 13 and a price of €399.99.

This accidental listing seemed to match up with previous PS4 Neo rumors of an October release and a cost of $399. However, it turns out this leaked release date was a false alarm.

While it was a mistake, the listing at Amazon Spain wasn’t an accidental product page for the Neo. Instead, it was an ill-worded page meant for the PlayStation VR, as a spokesman explained to PCMag. Due to the wording used, it appeared to be a new PS4 console and caused the confusion.

PlayStation VR, Sony’s virtual reality platform, will be released on October 13 for $399. It will allow certain games to be played in VR, while other games can be played in a special “cinematic mode” that puts players in a simulated theater. This feature was recently described in more detail, and will also allow movies and shows to be watching using the VR headset.

The release date and price of the PS4 Neo remain to be known.

There’s always a chance the accidental listing was for the Neo after all and that the spokesman’s explanation was meant to cover up the mistake. Some fans still believe the Neo will be released on October 13. Nevertheless, given the date and price shown on the page, it’s more likely it was for the PlayStation VR as stated.

Meanwhile, GameStop’s CEO spoke about the Neo in such a way, he might have revealed a 2016 release. GameStop has since stated that any indication that the Neo would be ready by the holidays was accidental.

Since he did not mention the Scorpio in his statement, only the PS4 Neo and Xbox One S, it might have been a slip after all. Nevertheless, it remains too ambiguous to draw any conclusions.

As of now, there is no solid information about the PlayStation 4 Neo’s release date. When do you think the new PS4 console will come out?
