PS3 Trouble shooting GTA IV Mods

I've owned a CFW for years and I've never had an issue modding a game with it EXCEPT GTA IV. I've been looking for guidance everywhere I can to install mods to it and it's taken me all over the place.

I have the base game GTA IV disc in US (BLUS) format meaning all the files are stored on my HDD for the game. Every time I've tried to replace the update.img with a modded one it either

A) Does nothing and I'm unable to access any sort of mods in single player or online
B) Infinite loading screen "Loading - Cousin Belic"

Can someone please help me. I just want some nostalgic GTA IV modding gameplay.

Installing mod on gta4 has no mystery, just get a mod for BLUS, otherwise it won't work
