I hope the majority of people on CC know that the playstation 3 has 7 SPE's enabled. The last one is disabled to increase the yield effectiveness during manufacturing. According to my knowledge there is one special one that is kind of dedicated to isolation. When you boot your ps3 up it will read the Syscon's EEPROM. The value and offset is located at "0x48C30". PSDEVWIKI states that you can Read and write it in an update manager. It will get sent by Syscon through the SPI bus. On all Consumer I think the value in manually set to "0x06" which basically tells us that 7 SPE's are enabled and 1 of them are disabled. Incrementing it will unlock the extra SPE. Of course crunchies there is a possiblity of this being unlocked you can run Linux on your playstation 3. But it all depends on whether the last SPE id dead or not. It has currently been tested on model (CECH-2500). Noting that it might not work on other models, as it might be defective.
